HSPT Tutoring in Maryland

The High School Placement Test (HSPT) is a standardized, timed test required for eighth-grade students applying to Catholic high schools in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Schools use HSPT results as part of their admissions, scholarship, and course-placement decisions.

Because students may take the HSPT only once, becoming familiar with the content, pacing, and format before test day is especially important.

What Is on the HSPT?
The HSPT takes approximately three hours and includes five multiple-choice sections:

• Verbal Skills: Synonyms, antonyms, analogies, classifications, and logical reasoning
• Quantitative Skills: Number patterns, comparisons, and mathematical reasoning
• Reading: Main ideas, supporting details, inferences, and vocabulary
• Mathematics: Arithmetic, geometry, algebra, statistics, and problem-solving
• Language: Grammar, spelling, punctuation, usage, and composition

The test requires students to work both accurately and efficiently. Calculators are not permitted unless specifically approved as an accommodation.
